Africa Carbon Forum kicks off

For the tenth time the Nairobi Framework Partnership (NFP) brings together experts, practitioners and policy makers from Africa and beyond to discuss and advance the climate action agenda in Africa. Today sees the beginning of the annual Africa Carbon Forum, this year held in Nairobi, Kenya. The forum focuses on state & non‐State actors' engagement to further strengthen the role of future carbon markets to achieve enhanced climate action, towards achieving the SDGs and the goals in the Paris Agreement. In addition to the established focus on market-based approaches, this year's forum looks at how the engagement between actors can be further strengthened in three key sectors namely energy, agriculture and human settlements. From all over the continent and the world more than 1400 experts, policymakers, climate practitioners, ngo representatives and ministers have gathered to explore the opportunities that can come from cooperation and investment in ambitious climate action.

A cornerstone event

Africa Carbon Forum, is the cornerstone event in the Africa Climate Week, which has been going on since the beginning of the week. After the entire world made a historic agreement in Paris in 2015, focus now is on implementing the Paris Agreement. Africa Climate Week seeks to strengthen cooperation and investment in ambitious climate action. Climate has come to the forefront of the agenda in recent years, but we still need to enhance ambition for a low carbon, climate resilient future, if we are to avoid climate change with disastrous impacts, especially on the African continent. Success depends on broad-based, ambitious effort from all sectors of society, both public and private. An important feature of the Africa Climate Week is its harvesting of views for consideration in the official climate negotiation process, through the Talanoa Dialogue. Both Africa Carbon Forum and Africa Climate Week is co-hosted by UNEP DTU Partnership as a founding member of the Nairobi Framework Partnership.
