Integrating displaced populations into national climate change policy and planning: pathways to enable investment in frontline and last mile communities

This session will speak to the COP theme of frontline communities and finance, building on the joint policy brief published by UNEP and IOM in August 2023 on “Integrating displaced populations into national climate change policy and planning”. While global in scope, the session will discuss region-specific examples of the emerging political consensus on this topic. This includes efforts by Member States of the African Union to roll out the ambition of the Kampala Declaration on Migration, Environment and Climate Change (KDMECC) continentally, and their ensuing ‘Call to Action’ to implement sector-specific policies, strategic partnerships and delivery models to address the economic and environmental challenges faced by countries seeing growing volumes of climate-induced mobility and hosting large numbers of long-term displaced populations. The panel session will be moderated by the NDC Partnership who will ask this political-level panel leading questions to stimulate a semi-structured discussion on relevant issues and trends, how they see this topic evolving at national, regional and global levels.
