Bio

Steven has assisted the development of eight Green Building Councils in Europe, served as the elected Chair of the Europe Green Building Council Network’s Education Taskforce, and led a successful campaign to promote the Living Building Challenge in Europe as well as other deep green initiatives.

He led the development of the RoGBC’s a "Green Homes & Green Mortgage" program performance verification and discounted interest rates for environmentally-responsible, energy-efficient, safe, high-quality and healthy homes. This program is now expanding with the support of a European Commission Horizon 2020 grant to 11 new countries. He is participating as an expert in the European Commission & United Nation Environment Programme’s “Energy Efficiency - Financial Institutions Group” to obtain actionable data and explore the relationship of risk to financing green versus non-green building projects.

Merete Villum Pedersen is the Head of Business Models & Finance in UNEP-DTU Partnership (a collaborative centre of UN Environment Programme, based in the Technology University of Denmark). She brings to UDP more than 23 years of experience within development policy and cooperation, as well as diplomacy, within environment and climate change in Asia and Africa, as well as the global scene. MVP started her career in the Mekong River Commission, being based for three years in Lao PDR and Cambodia. She subsequently joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Denmark, as a Senior Technical Advisor on Environment, covering Danida programmes throughout the world. After a three year posting as Development Counsellor in the Danish Embassy in Tanzania, designing and managing a 100 mill USD portfolio, she was appointed as Chief Technical Adviser and Head of the Danida team covering Climate Change, Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources. During  a three year  posting as Sustainable Development Adviser in Brussels to the High Representative of the European External Action Service, she joined the EU diplomacy and negotiation team in relation to the UN Rio conference and the Sustainable Development Goals. Returning to the Ministry, she continued her management position, and became Chair of the OECD technical group “Environet”, board member of the Green Climate Fund, GCF, and Council member of the Global Environment Facility. MVP holds an M.Sc. in Human Geography 1997, and a Bachelor Degree in Management 2010.

Talia Brun is a project adviser at the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) of the European Commission. She manages projects supporting energy efficiency in buildings, mitigating energy poverty and supporting the creation of energy communities. Prior to this, she worked in the climate finance sector supporting emission reduction projects in different parts of the world and did research for several urban think tanks. Talia is an Economist and holds an MSc from the Cities Programme of the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Ted Kronmiller is a Capital Markets professional with experience dynamically integrating sustainability factors into real estate development, project finance and debt and equity capital markets.

As an advisor to SMARTER Finance for Families, he develops and manages strategies to drive value creation with high green impact in developed and emerging markets.

Ted has experience at top international financial institutions managing cross-functional, multi-disciplinary teams and designing strategic risk management frameworks spanning investment banks, commercial banks, asset managers, hedge funds, pure play buy-out firms and institutional broker-dealers. At Barclays Capital he was responsible for developing firm-wide scenarios and targeted scenarios specific to the Equity Syndicate and Block Distribution; US Equity Liquid Market; Macro and Client Capital Management businesses.

Ted has co-authored research assessing impact of domestic and international risk-based capital adequacy standards, fair-value measurement, securitization and counterparty credit risk across top financial institutions.

Andrei Botis, is the Managing Partner for NAI Global in Romania and Moldova and CEO Appraisal & Valuation; a company focused on appraisal, consulting and real estate development services with specific experience in the valuation of green buildings. Andrei has been involved in valuation, brokerage and real estate investment in Romania since 2005, is currently a Member of Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and currently serves as the President of the Romania Green Building Council (RoGBC).

Andrei has supported the green building concept in Romania and internationally contributing as a Research Partner for RoGBC and other private and public institutions. He is an active member of ANEVAR – the Romanian association dedicated to improving the valuation of the country’s buildings - and he and his team teach the “Financial Considerations of Green Buildings” course for the Green Building Professional program.

Teaching Assistant and Doctoral Candidate at the Polytechnical School of the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Camilo Paez is an Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Construction expert. He is an architect and urbanist and is currently a researcher in built environment topics. His PhD research addresses the alignment of buildings’ environmental impact assessment systems with the EU Level(s) framework, and it focuses on integrating energy performance indicators in the early design phases, considering digital tools and collaborative processes.

He has specialised since 2007 in the implementation of the Passive House standard in housing and educational projects. He also carried out holistic evaluations of buildings’ sustainability, working as an expert in the Exemplary Buildings programme of Brussels Capital Region. These experiences are now complemented with his participation in European research projects embracing the topics of Energy Efficiency, EU policy and Green Finance.
