There are various ways in which Hydrogen can be produced, with corresponding differences in environmental impact. These differences are classified as Hydrogen Colours, though these do not equate to a clear difference in greenhouse emissions. Hence a plethora of related terms like “Renewable Hydrogen”, “Low-Carbon Hydrogen” and “Clean Hydrogen” are often used. It is therefore important to ask the following questions, which we will cover in this presentation:
- Is “Green Hydrogen” a standard term, used consistently by Governments and organisations?
- How green is “Green Hydrogen”, what does this mean in practice?
- How does Green Hydrogen relate to “Renewable Hydrogen”?
- How much “Low-Carbon Hydrogen” is actually low in carbon, is there an agreed threshold for this?
- Which type of hydrogen - Low Carbon Hydrogen or Clean Hydrogen do we have in mind?
