 The TNA stresses the need for optimizing water usage in Jordan's agricultural sector by implementing drip- and subsurface irrigation. A project to introduce this technology aims at irrigating 60,000 ha by 2030 through capacity building programmes and attractive financial subsidies for farmers and land owners.  

Jordan is a dry country located in the Middle East just south of Syria. The recent surge of refugees from Syria strains the agricultural sector as there is approximately an additional 1.4 million people to feed. The sector is already under pressure from an unfavourable arid landscape - whose conditions are worsened by the changing climate. Less rain, hotter temperatures and unreliable weather patterns poses a great threat in particular to the large rural population dependent on subsistence farming. A main issue tackled by the TNA is accordingly technologies aimed at optimizing the use of the scarce and diminishing water resources.

Although Jordan has previously begun work to address the challenges of climate change, there has been a technological gap in these efforts as necessary adaption and mitigation climate technologies had not been considered. The TNA brought a systematic approach through which the most relevant climate technologies were found and selected. It also worked as way to develop an integrated approach, seeing how the chosen technologies complements and strengthen each other across sectors.

The TNA identified grassland management as priority and oversaw a project that revived an old tradition, called "Hima", which is a community based system of grazing management. Based on the project the Ministry of Environment is now developing a Concept Note for the Green Climate Fund to scale up the successful pilot projects. Below is a list of the other prioritized sectors and technologies that were developed through the TNA.
