Nauru completed its TNA in 2023 as a part of Phase III. The TNA report analyzed specific technologies, such as Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC), as a potential source of clean, baseload electricity for the country.

Nauru is an isolated island located in the South Pacific approximately 2,900 kilometres northeast of Australia. Historically, phosphate was its primary economic resource. However, reserves of phosphate are thought to be nearly depleted now, and in any case the end of phosphate mining left a legacy of environmental degradation and unemployment.

Because Nauru is a single small island, the effects of climate and sea-level change will be highly inter-related and conditioned by the environmental and social changes that occur in the future. Improved access to climate change finance remains a key priority for Nauru.
