About us
UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre (UNEP-CCC) works at the intersection of policy, science and implementation. We support governments and institutions – particularly in developing countries and emerging economies – in advancing effective climate action and energy transitions. By combining global climate goals to national realities, we help bridge ambition with action.
Headquartered in UN City, Copenhagen, UNEP-CCC brings together a multicultural team of experts from many nationalities. With a footprint in countries across multiple regions, we partner with leading academic and policy institutions, and work on the ground in rigorous research and focused on impactful results.

Founded in 1990 as the UNEP Risø Centre, our institution evolved over the decades, operating as UNEP DTU Partnership until 2023 when it became UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre. This transition reflects our deepened focus on supporting integrated climate solutions through policy, data, and direct engagement with partners on the ground.
One of our key units, the Copenhagen Centre on Energy Efficiency, acts as the Energy Efficiency Hub under SEforALL initiatives. It partners with countries and cities to unlock high-impact opportunities for energy savings, offering tailored advice and supporting implementation to accelerate progress toward global efficiency goals.

Our Strategy
Our strategic focus is to support the delivery of the Paris Agreement, the 2030 Agenda, and climate-resilient development through capacity-building, advisory services, and the co-creation of knowledge. We work across mitigation, adaptation, technology, and finance, ensuring countries can access the tools and partnerships they need to move from planning to action.
At the heart of our strategy is a commitment to quality, inclusion, and collaboration. Whether supporting national reporting processes, developing technology needs assessments, or strengthening energy efficiency frameworks, we ensure our work is responsive to local contexts while aligned with global climate objectives.
