Bio

Melanie Slade has spent thirty years in energy efficiency policy development and implementation in many parts of the world.

She started working in the UK Government on industrial and appliance energy efficiency and has worked with many other governments to establish similar programmes, perhaps most notably, the Government of China, since the1990s.

In 2007 Mel became the Chair of Australia and New Zealand’s Equipment Energy Efficiency programme and where she led the phase-out of inefficient lighting.

Mel moved to the International Energy Agency in February 2014 to manage the Energy Efficiency in Emerging Economies Programme.

Mel and her team work with policymakers in Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, South Africa and Thailand to develop more effective energy efficiency policy, track its progress and assess its potential.

Bio

Paolo Bertoldi is a senior expert in sustainable energy, climate change and energy efficiency at the European Commission.

Some of his key areas of expertise include Energy Service Companies, market-based instruments, governance, environmental leadership, and ICT energy consumption.

Experienced Editor-in-chief with a demonstrated history of working in the international affairs industry. Bertoldi is also skilled in sustainable energy, Corporate Social Responsibility, International Relations, and data centre, and is in charge of policy analysis for energy efficiency at the European Commission where he has served as Energy Efficiency Expert and Senior Expert for a total of 26 years. He has an engineering degree focused on energy systems and electrical systems from the University of Padova, Italy.

Bio

Margot Pinault is a policy officer at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Energy in the Energy Efficiency unit. In this role, she is responsible for planning, coordinating and developing the current and future funding schemes for energy efficiency and clean energy transition, specifically under LIFE and Horizon Europe.

She has now over 9 years of experience at the European Commission. Her previous professional experience was in the private sector in France, where she worked for 7 years in the field of smart homes, home automation and building energy management systems.

Margot has a Master in Economics and a Master in European and International Business Law.

Bio

Cornelia Schenk has worked on renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies, policies and financing for 15 years, primarily focusing on technical cooperation with emerging markets and developing economies in Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia and Small Island Developing States. She is leading the work on energy efficiency financing and co-leading on transmission grid financing across partner countries within the OECD's CEFIM Programme. Prior to joining the OECD, she was leading the energy efficiency finance and investment analysis and the energy efficiency work programme with India at the IEA's Energy Efficiency for Emerging Economies Programme, and worked as a Sustainable Energy Specialist at the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency and the Austrian Development Agency. She has a background in environmental technology and international affairs (MSc), as well as in international law (Mag.iur) and clean energy finance.

Alex Geers has substantial experience with large complex CAPEX investment programs and has been active in this segment for the last 35 years. Main leadership roles were in Engineering, Project Management, Technical Procurement & Supply Chain, and Sales within Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Therefore, his experience profile and technology insight allow creative solutions to complex implementation environments while delivering the required outcomes.

During the last 5 years, he focused on developing Energy Efficiency and renewable energy infrastructure, focusing predominantly on the private sector and industry for Honeywell Building solutions.

He is closely aligned with various Energy & Sustainability associations such as BELESCO, EU.BAC and EU.ESCO has first-line domain expertise in Energy Performance Contracting as well.

Alex holds an Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering and Automation from the KUL as well as a degree in business management and marketing. He is based in Belgium.
