- News 23 April 2024 Enhancing Ethiopia's Climate Action Capacity Measuring and tracking the impacts of planned climate actions, and managing related finance flows is vital for successful climate action. This is also the case for Ethiopia, where the country is now, after implementing an ICAT project, better placed to estimate the emission reduction potential of possible mitigation actions and their related costs, and establish a tracking framework to see the realized reductions of implemented policies. Additionally, Ethiopia is armed to manage and track its…
- News 18 January 2024 GACMO: Emissions projections tool adds transparency in Ethiopia and Seychelles Ethiopia and Seychelles are well underway to use the Greenhouse Gas Abatement Cost Model (GACMO) to develop greenhouse gas emissions projections and evaluate the impact of mitigation actions. In December, training workshops in Ethiopia and Seychelles received highly positive feedback from partners and participants both on how the GACMO tool can help improve climate action with detailed projections of emissions reductions and on the content of the workshops in enabling participants in using the…
- Project 3 December 2020 Technology Needs Assessment (phase IV) UNEP and UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre, with financing from the Global Environment Facility, are implementing a fourth phase of Technology Needs Assessments (TNAs). The fourth phase of the project supports seventeen Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in carrying out new or improved TNAs, from 2020 to 2023. Since 2009, a hundred developing countries have joined the project: twenty-four countries in the Latin America and Caribbean region, thirty-seven in…
- Project 7 November 2018 CDM Loan Scheme The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Loan Scheme was conceived as a means to improve the regional distribution of the CDM by enhancing the number of registered CDM activities in under-represented countries. The CDM Loan Scheme has been instrumental to support the increased participation to the CDM by countries with less than 10 registered CDM projects in underrepresented regions. As agreed by Parties at the Copenhagen Climate Conference in 2009 the loans are provided interest-free from…
- Project 26 October 2018 Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT) The Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT) aims to strengthen capacities in developing countries to assess the impacts of their climate policies and actions and to support greater transparency, effectiveness, ambition and trust in climate policies worldwide. The Initiative works with countries to build capacities on understanding and applying tools and approaches to measure, report and verify (MRV) greenhouse gas emissions reductions and adaptation action, as well as to strengthen…
- Project 15 October 2018 INDC Support Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) are key to saving our climate. As well as being a crucial part of the global climate negotiations, they are also complicated documents caught in the crossfire between policy, science, finance and necessity. UNEP DTU Partnership along with UN Environment are providing support to developing countries with development and implementation of NDCs and the previous INDCs (Intended Nationally Determined Contributions). The actions contained in all NDCs…
- Project 11 October 2018 Facilitating Implementation and Readiness for Mitigation (FIRM) The Facilitating Implementation and Readiness for Mitigation (FIRM) project worked to strengthen national capacities to formulate low carbon development strategies and identify mitigation opportunities. FIRM worked within the context of national sustainable development priorities and the evolving concept of Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs). Towards this end, FIRM provided advice and capacity-building to stakeholders in participating countries. The project was funded by the…
- Project 24 September 2018 Technology Needs Assessments (phase I and II) Between 2010 and 2018, UN Environment and UNEP DTU, with financing from the Global Environment Facility, completed two phases of Technology Needs Assessments (TNAs) in more than 60 countries. The overall objective was to go beyond identifying technology needs narrowly, work towards investment. TNAs also present a unique opportunity for countries to track their needs for new equipment, techniques, services, capacities and skills necessary to mitigate and adapt to climate change. In…
