The Government of Moldova implemented key elements of the TNA in the country’s health sector, following extreme heat experiences during the summer of 2016. Given the increased likelihood of similar extreme weather events in the future, the prime minister instructed the authorities to put in place more medical emergency care and rehabilitation measures, as proposed by the TNA. Thus, the TNA worked as a helpful tool in carrying out swift solutions through simple, low-cost technologies while at the same time building longer-term resilience to climate change.

The Republic of Moldova completed its TNA in 2023. For adaptation, Moldova focused on agriculture, energy, water, forestry, health, transport.

This inclusive process, supported by the Green Climate Fund, UNDP, and FAO, identified priority technologies to enhance resilience and sustainable development.

Following extreme heat and drought events authorities put in place more medical emergency care and rehabilitation measures, as proposed by the TNA. Thus, the TNA worked as a helpful tool in carrying out swift solutions through simple, low-cost technologies while at the same time building longer-term resilience to climate change.

In line with the Paris Agreement’s Technology Framework, the Republic of Moldova has embraced technological innovation and policy coordination to address climate challenges. To guide effective adaptation, the country has conducted Climate Change

The TNA findings align with Moldova’s broader climate strategies, including the National Programme for Adaptation (2023–2030), Moldova 2030 Sustainable Development Strategy, and the Low Emission Development Programme. These outcomes promote transformative adaptation by establishing resilient systems to address vulnerabilities and match the pace of climate change.

Priority technologies for adaptation

Agriculture Sector

Aquaculture: 1) Technology of complex capitalization of the trophic potential through interspecific polyculture;
Aquaculture: 2) An intervention to increase the water flow in the ponds used for growing fish in polyculture according to the continuous technology;
Aquaculture: 3) Fish protection system and ensuring food security in the conditions of climate change.
Livestock: 1) Increase of areas under irrigation for the production of feed;
Livestock: 2) Construction of platforms for the accumulation and storage of manure;
Livestock: 3) Ensuring adequate conditions for animal welfare by optimizing the construction requirements of sheds and stables.
Horticulture: 1) High-tech greenhouses with enhanced climate control characteristics and improved energy efficiency;
Horticulture: 2) Modern irrigation systems: maximization of water and energy efficiency;
Horticulture: 3) Hydroponics with recyclable solutions.
Cereals: 1) Conservation Agriculture System (crop rotations, No-till, cover crops, soil mulching;
Cereals: 2) Climate-smart rotations and use of predecessors capable to prevent problems;
Cereals: 3) Climate-smart rotation in the frame of a network of shelter belts and ponds for increasing the humidity of the air

Mono crystalline photovoltaic panels.
Ground-Water Heat Pump Technology.
Vertical shaft wind equipment.

Forestry Sector

The ecological reconstruction of inadequate and vulnerable arboretums in order to adapt to climate change.
The use of modern biotechnologies for propagating vegetative material in providing the forestry sector with reproductive material in the new climatic conditions.
Climate change impact considerations, forest species and appropriate management strategies for forest ecosystems.
