Suriname has joined the TNA process in 2018. The process identified prioritized technologies for sectors like water, agriculture, and infrastructure, and the development of Technology Action Plans (TAPs) that outline specific actions for implementation, barrier reduction, and funding.
Ninety percent of Suriname’s activities and settlements are located in the coastal zone. Inland, the tropical rainforest covers approximately 91% of the total area. The industrial base of Suriname is dominated by the mining and petroleum industries.
To a lesser extent, the agricultural and tourism sectors also contribute to the country’s GDP.
Suriname is interested in the TNA process, as there has never been a project focused exclusively on technology before, especially adaptation technology.
